Couriers 'may opt for electric vans' Popular

Date: 01 August 2008

Couriers may find that electric vans become much more commonplace over the next few years, it has been claimed.

According to a report on online resource the Green Car Website, EurotaxGlass has asserted that concerns about battery reliability, durability and cost no longer outweigh the long-term benefits of greener vans.

George Alexander, commercial vehicle editor at EurotaxGlass, suggested that the soaring price of fuel is convincing many professional transport companies, including those providing courier services, that electric vans are the best option for city-based deliveries.

"With London’s Low Emission Zone to be contended with and the congestion charge to be paid, those opting for zero-emission vans which avoid these headaches are already benefiting financially," he noted, adding that owners of such vehicles also don't have to pay excise duty or for MOT tests.

In related news, it was previously reported that a supermarket price war has lowered the price of petrol at some outlets, including Sainsbury's, Morrison's and Asda.
