Bird droppings cause costly damage to vans
Date: 17 July 2008
The damage caused by bird droppings is costing motorists in the UK £57 million annually, according to new research.
According to Zurich Insurance, nine out of ten car and van owners, including couriers, have fallen victim to bird muck in the past year, with four per cent of these being affected each day.
The insurance company's survey also highlighted that green cars are the least likely to be attacked by droppings, with 86 per cent of people with this coloured car being a victim.
Damage caused by bird droppings can be costly to repair, with 70 per cent of drivers affected claiming it has knocked up to £200 of their vehicle's value.
Commenting on these findings, Mike Quinton, managing director of direct and partnerships at Zurich said people should try and use car covers or park under trees to avoid having to make costly repairs.
This follows news from the Institute of Advanced Motoring that drivers should be cautious they do not accidentally over indulge in alcoholic beverages this summer as it could see them gaining points on their licence.
