'Pressure is on' to develop green vehicles
Date: 16 July 2008
The pressure is on to develop greener cars and vans, one commentator has asserted.
Writing for the Scotsman, Hazel Mollison notes that Gordon Brown has pledged his support to eco-friendly cars and hoped the UK would be using mostly hybrid or electric engines by 2020.
Ms Mollison adds that opting for an environmentally-friendly motor can save drivers money as they are cheaper to fuel and are not subject to road tax which could make them attractive to drivers providing courier services.
One development which could be good news for couriers is the new hydrogen-powered car from ITM Power.
Speaking to the news provider the company explains that these vehicles work by converts mains electricity and water into hydrogen to power the car and assert that the technology could be powering delivery vans within the next 12 months.
Meanwhile, the European commission has passed a proposal which will see truck drivers conducting being subsidised for any environmentally-friendly changes they make to their vehicles.
