Satnav system ' to give risk alerts'
Date: 01 July 2008
A new satnav system which verbally alerts drivers when they are approaching a dangerous road could prove useful for drivers providing courier services.
The Times reports that the European Road Assessment Programme (EuroRAP) is in discussions with a number of satnav manufacturers about allowing them to use its recently published risk map.
EuroRAP's risk map details which UK roads have been the sites of serious accidents and other road safety risks.
Speaking to the publication, Dr Joanne Hill, of EuroRAP, said that the satnav warning systems are being tested later this year and could be available in 2009.
The risk map identifies a quarter of UK motorways as falling outside the safest band of roads, with an eight mile stretch of the A537 between Macclesfield and Buxton being deemed the most dangerous.
In related news, research at the University of Bath recently claimed that the natural phenomenon known as the Northern Lights can interfere with satnav systems and cause them to send drivers in the wrong directions.
You too can make the headlines with bigger and better courier contracts, find out how!
