Research highlights effects of fuel prices

Date: 27 June 2008

New research has highlighted the extent to which fuel price hikes are affecting motorists, including those providing a courier service.

A study conducted by Insurance.co.uk suggests that many drivers are looking to cut back in other areas so they can afford fuel.

Some 51 per cent plan to cut the amount they spend on MOTs, servicing and car parts – which the insurer assets could have "make individual representations to their governments based on common policy initiatives".

Over a third of drivers (36 per cent) are thinking about buying a more fuel efficient car while one in six are considering downgrading.

The research also highlighted that motorists from Glasgow and Manchester are the most concerned about rising fuel costs while the capital's residents are the least concerned.

Online news resource Mathaba reports that, according to the AA, petrol prices in the UK have reached 11.8.51 pence per litre and diesel 131.72 pence per litre.
