UK roads are "an accident waiting to happen"
Date: 24 June 2008
An insurance company has asserted that UK roads are an "accident waiting to happen".
Following a poll in which it questioned drivers about their perceptions of their driving ability, Insurance.co.uk deemed Britain's roads to be a potentially dangerous place, which could mean people providing a courier service need to be wary of their fellow drivers.
The survey highlighted that 52 per cent of road users feel they may fail their driving test if they had to re-sit it now, while many drivers were not able to recognise common road signs.
Only 27 per cent of vehicle users were able to identify a no waiting sign, while one in ten did not know what the no overtaking sign looked like.
Commenting on these findings, Steve Grainger, head of the comparison website, said: "Even the most competent driver, after years on the road, can become complacent."
"However, our research shows that bad habits come all too easy," he added.
In related news, Telford in the West Midlands was recently voted the UK's most car-friendly city in a poll by Virgin Money Insurance.
