Satnav 'makes drivers feel at ease'

Using a satnav system to help with directions makes vehicle users, including those providing a courier service, at ease behind the wheel, it has emerged.
Research, conducted by the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute and Dutch research institute TNO on behalf of TomTom, highlighted that 72 per cent of users feel less stressed when using portable navigation devices, with 20 per cent of respondents stating they feel calmer.
Some 59 per cent of those questioned claimed using a satnav device makes it easier for them to concentrate on the road, with 60 per cent stating that it makes them fell safer when in a car or van.
Jocelyn Vigreux, president of TomTom, commented that the results of this poll highlight that safe and efficient driving goes "hand-in-hand" with using a satnav device.
A UK poll recently highlighted that road users feel speed cameras distract them from their driving.
The research from RoadPilot showed that 53 per cent of motorists, including couriers, feel looking out for cameras distracts their attention from the road.
