Bristol to introduce congestion charge?

Date: 16 June 2008

Bristol could be the next city to introduce a congestion charge, which could affect couriers working in the area.

The Bristol Evening Post reports that the city has been earmarked as a possible location for a congestion scheme due to the large number of vehicles on its road during peak hours.

Bristol plans to submit a bid for funding from the Transport Innovation Fund this summer and among the changes suggested in its proposal is a congestion charge.

Speaking to the news provider, the local council's transport leader Mark Bradshaw said the daily charge would be approximately £4 and would only apply between 07:00 BST and 10:00 BST on weekdays.
He added that the charge could be in place by 2014.

Manchester is set to become the second UK city after London to introduce a congestion charge.

The city was given the go-ahead by the government last week and it is hoped that the charge will be implemented by 2013.
