Company car drivers 'are worst motorists'

Date: 13 June 2008

Company car drivers have emerged as the most dangerous motorists on UK roads.

In comparison, van drivers such as couriers were found to be safer.

A survey conducted by online resource Vans United found that company car drivers are more than three times as likely to use their mobile phone or eat and drink behind the wheel, reports Motor Trader.

Some 20 per cent of company car drivers also admitted to almost causing an accident while they were checking their appearance in the mirror on the way to a business meeting.

Furthermore, 82 per cent admitted they have driven while tired.

Van drivers, including those providing courier services, were found to be seven times less likely to be involved in accidents on motorways compared to car drivers, adds the news resource.

This follows news that an elderly woman motorist from London driving a BMW would be the perceived worst driver, according to respondents to an Auto Trader poll.
