Congestion in UK 'worsening'
Date: 12 June 2008
Congestion in the UK is worsening and affecting businesses, it has emerged.
Research conducted by Europcar highlights that 80 per cent of people questioned feel congestion is getting worse, with 42 per cent predicting that 20 per cent of every business journey is spent waiting in traffic.
A further 29 per cent estimated that as much as 30 per cent of each trip is wasted in traffic queues.
This could affect the speed with which couriers are able to do their job.
"Congestion is clearly having an impact on the nation's economic profitability at a time when businesses are really under pressure to be as cost-effective and efficient as possible," commented David McNeill, corporate sales director for Europcar
Mr McNeill continued to say that better measures are needed to tackle this problem.
In related news, a congestion charge for Manchester city centre was recently given approval and will be implemented by 2013, which could affect couriers working in the region.
