Couriers can "eco-drive" to cut fuel costs
Date: 06 June 2008
Motorists can cut their fuel costs by altering their driving habits, according to one expert.
This could be good news for couriers who are currently being affected by soaring diesel prices.
According to the Royal Automobile Club Foundation, adopting "eco-driving" habits can save vehicle owners 20p for 18-mile journeys, which equates to a nine pence per litre saving.
The foundation suggests drivers, including those providing courier services, stick to the speed limits and keep their cars or vans regularly serviced as this means they use less fuel.
It adds that driving smoothly is good for fuel economy, while cluttering up a car with unnecessary weight can cause it to use more petrol.
Sheila Rainger, deputy director of foundation, said: "High fuel costs are causing untold misery for UK motorists. The good news is that motorists can award themselves a cut in fuel prices of nine pence a litre by simply changing their driving habits."
In related news, an auction company recently revealed that commercial vehicle prices are falling which means that courier drivers could snap up a bargain.
BCA added that nearly-new and part-exchange vehicles are experiencing the biggest price drops.
