New 3D satnav system could benefit couriers
Date: 04 June 2008
A new satnav system which could be beneficial to drivers performing courier services has been launched.
The MAP680 from Clarion maps landmarks and elevation changes in 3D, using two high-performance programmes to draw buildings in both the foreground and the background.
Buildings close to the driver appear transparent as they get closer approach them, so they do not obstruct the view of the next junction, while buildings further away are textured and solid, so they are easily recognisable to the driver and can be used as reference points.
According to the company, the personal navigation system also uses digital elevation model data to depict height and depth features.
The gadget also utilises Bluetooth technology to display text message on-screen and give touch-screen access to a paired mobile phone.
In related news, a new iPhone from Apple with global positioning technology is rumoured to be launching next week.
Such a device could prove handy for courier workers.
