New digital speed cameras could affect couriers
Date: 03 June 2008
Couriers could soon find themselves affected by new digital speed cameras, which do not even flash as they catch out speeding motorists.
The Daily Express reports that the new "robotic" cameras will catch twice as many motorists than are currently being penalised, as they will be in operation constantly.
According to the news provider, some groups are unhappy about this new development as they feel that it is just a way for councils to make more money rather than improve road safety.
"Originally we were in favour of speed cameras when they came in ten or 12 years ago as they were placed at accident blackspots," a spokesman for pressure group Speedcameras.org told the publication.
"But this has completely changed as local authorities have realised how much money they can make from them."
Recently it emerged that many drivers feel the presence of speed cameras is detrimental to their driving.
A poll conducted by RoadPilot highlighted that 43 per cent of motorists, including those providing courier services, feel that being on the look out for speed cameras hampers their ability to concentrate on the road.
You too can make the headlines with bigger and better courier contracts, find out how!
