Van makers to publish CO2 emission data
Date: 02 June 2008
Van manufacturers have pledged to publish the carbon dioxide (CO2) emission of their vehicles so that drivers, including those providing courier services, can make an informed choice about which van to purchase.
Companies have been required to register the emission levels for new vans since the beginning of the year but the results have so far not been published in the UK, reports RoadTransport.co.uk.
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) is currently in discussion with the Department for Transport about the best way to publish the data, which will probably be via the Vehicle Certification Agency, adds the news provider.
However, the website states that the SMMT has raised concerns over the way that information regarding emission levels is obtained, claiming that a number of elements can affect the results even if the engine is the same.
It cites body configuration, payload and vehicle weight as factors which can impact upon CO2 emission levels.
Meanwhile, auto manufacturer Nissan has announced plans to launch 12 new light commercial vans which could be used for courier services by 2012.
