Electric van used for courier services
Date: 27 May 2008
A local authority courier service provider has introduced a new electric vehicle.
TransLinc is aiming to provide a cleaner courier service to Lincolnshire county council (LCC) by using the zero carbon dioxide emission Smith Edison electric vehicles.
According to a statement from the courier company, the 'green' van is ideal for operating in congested inner city areas and is also cost effective as it costs just 3.5p per mile to run.
It also qualifies for a free Road Fund License.
TransLinc's national sales manager Mark Werrell said: "The Smith Edison van is the perfect vehicle for short, inner city routes and is perfectly suited to the work of LCC's courier service.
"Increasingly we are seeing local authorities focus on reducing their environmental impact and we are constantly looking for new fleet vehicles to help our clients fulfil these reductions."
Meanwhile, in related news, the GreenFleet awards are to take place in Brussels next month in a bid to reward private and public sector fleet operators for their efforts to reduce the environmental impact of motoring.
