London Assembly candidate opposes C-charge

Date: 14 April 2008

Motorists who oppose the congestion charge - including many couriers - will be happy to hear that Chris Prior is standing for election to the London Assembly.

Mr Prior is standing under the name Abolish the Congestion Charge, which is a registered description of the Stop Congestion Charging Party.

"We must abolish the congestion charge," he said. "Not only is it an unfair tax, it costs over £5.50 of every £8 to collect and it simply does not work."

The charge means that every courier driver entering the centre of London has to pay to enter during the working week - eating into potential profits and making life more difficult.

"London deserves better," Mr Prior continued. "London can have better. Better transport, better policing, better councils. If you elect me to the London Assembly I will work to give you the best that local government should and can provide."
