Vans in neutral colours have more resale value

Date: 26 March 2008

Owner drivers should think carefully about the colour of their vans when they buy them - because this may affect how easy they are to sell on at a later date.

Vehicle auction company British Car Auctions (BCA) believes that van drivers and owners should think carefully before they opt for unconventional colours, because potential buyers may be put off, SMEweb reports.

In the same way that homes for sale are more likely to fetch a high price if they are painted in fresh, neutral colours, vans are more likely to sell for more if they are finished in a standard colour such as white, metallic silver, green or blue.

Duncan Ward, business development manager at BCA UK, added that van owners, such as couriers, should not endanger the resale value of their vehicles when branding.

So, rather that respraying them in company colours, people should think about using removable labels.

Other factors that make vans more attractive in the re-sale market include side-loading doors - which are very useful for making deliveries, making it easier to load and unload.
