CV operators such as courier firms thinking long-term on vehicle purchases

Date: 11 March 2008

More and more courier companies and other commercial vehicle (CV) fleet operators are thinking more long-term when they buy their vans, according to EurotaxGlass's.

The company, which publishes Glass's Guide to Commercial Vehicle Values, claims that new Euro IV emissions standards, as well as the prospect of Euro V in the future, have pushed up the prices of new vans, such as courier vans.

However, "this has not dissuaded operators from ordering the latest-generation units", the company said.

"With one eye on the future, fleet operators are increasingly planning ahead and taking account of changing legislation," said EurotaxGlass's George Alexander.

"It appears that most are prepared to order top-end product, with price not being the key consideration."

New regulations such as the London low emission zone (LEZ) are encouraging couriers and owner operators to consider the environmental impact of their vehicles.

At the present time, however, the LEZ zone only affects the heaviest haulage trucks.
