Drivers flick speed cameras the V-sign

Date: 20 December 2007

Speed cameras can be a nuisance when they cause courier drivers with loads to slow down unnecessarily, and now some motorists in the north-east have shown them exactly how they feel.

One driver was snapped flicking a V-sign to the speed camera, the Chronicle Live reports, indicating frustration with a camera that possibly slowed him down - in the same way that couriers are often slowed down unnecessarily when they deliver loads, including backloads. Other drivers also gave cameras the V-sign.

Another picture shows a white van driver reading a map, which he is holding onto using both hands, although it is unclear whether this is a courier driver delivering a load.

A further speed camera snap shows a different van driver picking his nose with one hand and holding a cigarette with the other.

The pictures were released to the Chronicle by the Northumbria Safety Camera Partnership, which reminded courier drivers and others to take care on the roads.

"You can't handle your car while reading, driving with one hand or eating. Other road users expect you to pay attention to what you are doing," he said.
