Prospective London mayor Boris Johnson has added his voice to those calling for curbs to the extension of London's congestion charge.
Speaking during a visit to Greenwich, as part of a tour of the capital as he bids to succeed incumbent Ken Livingstone, Mr Johnson said he felt the area should not be added to the 'C-charge' zone.
"We have to reduce London's general output of CO2 but I want to see measures that actually encourage people rather than clobber them," he told local newspaper, News Shopper.
It was a sentiment echoed by local councillor, Alex Wilson, who argued that transport was an area in which the mayor of London could "genuinely affect" people and businesses.
Courier companies are among those who have felt the pinch as a result of the introduction of the congestion charge and will hope that efforts to inhibit further expansion of the zone are successful.
The UK Commission for Integrated Transport has previously acknowledged the courier sector may 'downsize' in appraising of the scheme, although the revenues raised by the charge have made it a popular tool in some quarters.
