Royal Mail workers to strike again in October

Royal Mail postal workers are to stage further strikes next month, a move that is likely to benefit couriers around the UK.

Ongoing industrial action at Royal Mail earlier this year saw deliveries in chaos and companies opting to use other courier delivery firms such as TNT and Citipost instead.

Now the Communication Workers Union (CWU) has said that there will be further strikes "in response to Royal Mail's draconian and destructive proposals on pay and business changes".

Because no pay deal has been agreed, and because unagreed operational changes have been put in place by the firm, workers are set to walk out for 48 hours on October 5th and 6th, and for another 48 hours on October 8th and 9th.

As well as this, in the week beginning October 15th a rolling programme of functional strikes will continue weekly until the dispute is resolved, the CWU said.

"Strikes are a proportionate response to an employer that is completely out of control," said the union's deputy general secretary, Dave Ward.

"Rather than running the business, Royal Mail's actions demonstrate they are intent on destroying it. The workforce has had enough of Royal Mail messing them around. We're not going to tolerate an employer that ignores its workforce, ignores the union and ignores its customers."

I dont know what all the fuss is about, I have done some agency work a few years ago now and have seen inside the royal mail main distribution depot in Plymouth, well I have to say they are lazy & over paid. there will soon be no Royal Mail. WHAT HAS GREAT BRITON GOT LEFT???

Its a shame this is happening to the oldest and respected delivery service in the UK,Lets hope better communication resolves this,and common sense prevails over greed and poor management.The Royal Mail is an public service as well as a company,lets not forget that.
