Couriers benefit from Friday the 13th postal strike

Date: 13 July 2007

With a postal strike taking place today (Friday 13th July - unlucky for Royal Mail), set to benefit courier firms, the Periodical Publishers Association (PPA) has issued some advice.

Royal Mail will be out of commission and publishing firms around the UK are likely to badly affected, and wish to use the services of other courier companies.

To help those in the publishing industry, the PPA has released the details of various alternative postal operators, including Citipost, DHL, DX and TNT, and other useful logistics firms such as Postal Logistics and Ibex Worldwide.

The strike - following on from a previous strike that took place two weeks ago - is being staged by the Communication Workers Union because of a pay dispute.

Royal Mail has noted that Post Offices themselves will not be affected by the action, and that access to Royal Mail services will be available from post boxes outside Post Offices.

Nevertheless, alternative courier firms are likely to benefit significantly as businesses look for a more reliable option.
